Blogs are places of your own, similar to a personal journal. If you want to record your thoughts, ideas, or write in a more journalistic style, blogs are the answer. Although people can comment on your blog posts, it's not really a discussion group. Your blog has its own web address, so you can use it independently and pass it around to others in your email signature, for example. It is totally yours, although others are encouraged to read it.

Forums are places where you expect to encourage discussion among others. Your post establishes the topic, and many people contribute. Forums aren't really owned by one person but the community.

In reality, the two forms are quite similar.

On this site, blog postings always show up on the main page automatically. If a forum post looks interesting, an administrator (like me) may decide to promote it to the main page.

The real rule to remember is that there are no rules! As this site is used more (fingers crossed) the rules will evolve and change. Just have fun.
