About Me

Me in AustraliaMe in AustraliaI live in Melbourne, Australia in a wonderful inner-city neighborhood called South Melbourne. My partner Grace and I have an internet business here called "Spider Eye Studios" and I have been busy on a new venture called MusicMate. About the only way I keep track of Erie these days is the goerie.com website!

I have been heavily involved in the web and technology since I left Kanty, and have accomplished a lot, often in "unconventional ways". In 1985 got a lot of US news coverage for inventing one of the worlds first 16-bit micro computers using "fish tanks and weird stuff from Woolworths". Even got on the Paul Harvey show.

Had a very successful company in Pittsburgh called Apex, and wrote one of the best add-on tools for Visual Basic, called TrueGrid, which went on to become DBGrid in the Microsoft Visual Studio family of products.

Grace and my company here in Australia has done the following websites of note:

  • BMG Australia for 8 years (one of our faves)
  • Many entertainment sites, including Universal Music Australia, many artist sites, the Australian Addicited to Noise site, Telstra's Music Site and Web Channels Portal
  • Produced the three largest webcasts ever done in Australia, including the memorable Mushroom 25th Concert from the MCG.
  • www.warnermusic.com.au is ours.
  • scubalot.com is an experimental site Grace and I run. We love to scuba dive (come visit us and we'll go to the Great Barrier Reef!)
  • passionforpixels.com, one of the worlds most notable digital photography communities, was developed and hosted by us as a service to one of the worlds oldest photography clubs, the Melbourne Camera Club.
  • Trial By Fire is my technology blog where I talk about a lot of geeky stuff.
  • spidereye.com is the company Grace and I started here. Grace (a very, very cool person!) is now doing her own blogging over there.
  • roocast.com is a site we run to promote Australian music
  • ... and many more.

School Notes

Um, does it count if I was in Brother Joe's bizarre stage play "Comment on an Age?" :-)

Since Graduation...

Left Erie in 1980 and went to Pittsburgh where I spent 30 years becoming a computer professional and starting a couple companies. Moved to Australia in 1994 with my wonderful partner Grace, and live there today, still in the computer biz.
