Edward R. SzemrajClass Of...1952 Years Attended1948-1952 About MeRetired from the Maryvale School District (Cheektowaga NY, suburban Buffalo) in 1996. Hired in 1959-60 school year. Taught high school English and Russian; then became high librarian (1970)and eventually district library-media coordinator. Began teaching career in 1957-58 school year in Lyndonville NY (located about 50 miles from Buffalo on Lake Ontario). Presently reside with wife Geraldine in Amherst NY (Buffalo suburb). We have 2 sons -- James and John. I'm active as a Board member on the Permanent Chair of Polish Culture at Canisius College. School NotesNick-name at Kanty was "Sham-Sham." Gave salutatory address in the Polish language during our
commencement exercises. Was on debating team. Liked working in chapel. Wrote articles for the
school newspaper. Participated in intra-murals. Thanks to one of my classmates -- Richard Kuczwaj from Brooklyn NY -- visited New York City for the first time in the summer of 1949.
Since Graduation...University of Buffalo -- BA in English (1956); Canisius College -- MS in Education (1959); State
University of NY at Geneseo -- MLS in Library (1970). Also Prefect Fellowship at Niagara University (1956-1957); NY State Russian Language Fellowship at Colgate U (Summer 1966).
Edited and wrote an article for a book "The Polonian Legacy of Western New York," published by
the Canisius College Press in April 2005. |
